The trend of constructing green building is increasing as they provide several benefits which are not possible for the normal buildings. Before discussing further we must have right information about green buildings. Many people believes green building are those building which are surrounded by green surroundings and some think these are building which doesn’t have bad impact on environment(Albino and Berardi, 2012). In actual term green buildings are those buildings which are built to preserve natural environment around it and is able to generate energy to serve the building needs. The construction of building and its operation will not disrupt natural resources like water, land and energy and promote a healthy environment for all involved in the project. The Crystal is an environment friendly building constructed in London designed by Siemens. The building was open in 2012 by Siemens as a global hub; their main reason to make this building was to debate on the need of sustainable living and development. Crystal also works as an inter-active museum where education about urban living is given and discussion was done on how people live in cities, what struggle they face and how with the help of green building we can balance quality of life, economy and environment. The building site is of approx 18000 square meter and approx 30 million Euros was spent in creating the building. NEED DEFINITION Green building is not just an innovation it is need of future. With resources getting depleted it is important to built buildings which have the capabilities of generating energy which can be used within building. These buildings are friendly to environment which will help countries governments to control pollution level, protect their natural resources and provide healthy environment to people. The Crystal is a green building which is located in London west beck. The building was constructed by Siemens; they constructed this building to show people what a green building can do and discuss about it benefits with people including students and research agencies. Also they wanted to develop a building which can save and generate energy. Siemens has prepared a design which allows 70% of natural light to enter building, it harvest rain water collected from roof, water is heated by solar thermal heating, 20% of electricity used in building is generated through solar panel, carbon emissions is 70% less than other offices, natural heat sources are used at site to manage temperature of site which save cost of fossil fuels(Alter, 2012). It is very important for us to construct more building like crystal because such buildings has features which can help in fighting against the issues like global warning issues, ozone depletion issues, fossil fuel usage issues, health issues, wildlife protection issues and photochemical smog’s issues. These are the major factors which are responsible for deviation from the innate environment and thus causing severe problem. Keeping in this mind this project has been designed which will help the environmental friendly building rather we can say in more sophisticated form a construction of green building. Safeguarding the environment is the new golden rule of corporations and several techniques and ideas are implemented, the main reason for inducing ideas is to better handling of materials and processes that are basically resource efficient and environmental friendly for the entire life-cycle of building. Over usage of carbon-foot print will be reduced, recycled materials comes in handy, durability is increased, easily disposable, energy reduction etc all these factors are responsible for incorporating the idea of green building since these factors play a vital role for introducing the ideas of constructing the environmental friendly building it is a boon for society, people, country and for future benefits such as Energy efficient equipments are advisable now days.3R are the new trends followed which is basically-Reuse, Reduce and Recycle materials such as recycled glass, window panes, tiles, old yet antique windows doors etc. Encouraging the usage of renewable resources such as bamboo etc, cork, linoleum which are sustainable and are can be found in natural environment. Usage of solar panels which is affective in long term .Location is another major factor which in turn the parameter to be kept in mind while constructing the building i.e. avoid building the west facing building as it serve many purpose such as it keeps the building cool, minimizes the sun exposure etc. How well its connective network is with the building i.e connectivity with the public transport but also same time noise pollution is another major factor which is also considered. Another factor which is quiet interesting to note is whether the chosen location is natural disaster prone area or not, how sensitive the area to cyclone, storms etc. Eco friendly light and reduce usage of traditional light also viable option. Now day’s water rather getting clean water is cumbersome task thus the building which involve rain water harvesting or provides tankless water heaters will serve a good purpose to the society. There are many countries such as USA, UK, and Australia etc. who are considering these facts and thus designing eco friendly buildings which serve to boost up their economy and set an example for others thus making this planet worth living. The idea of designing such kind of project requires extensive research and involves huge number of manpower thus help in increasing the livelihood of people. CONCEPTUAL DESIGN Conceptual design takes place generally after feasibility studies and option appraisals have been completed and project briefing is completed. Conceptual design is the initial presentation from the design to for the project initiation and completion(Amaechi and Counsell, 2013).It also elaborates how each and every stage will be carried out for the completion of the project considering. The conceptual design of the crystal building project is prepared below. PROBLEM DEFINITION The first step in the conceptual framework is defining the problem for which project is proposed. Building construction is very common process in every country. Lot of resources and energy is consumed in constructing a building and the way buildings are constructed it have impact the environment negatively. Also buildings consumes large amount of energy, hazardous chemicals emission which is not a good sign for humans, animals and plants. Siemens has identified these problems and decided to construct green building which can resolve these problems. SYSTEM DESIGN AND FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS During system designing phase of the crystal building various steps will be performed like defining architecture, outline specification, preparing schedule of project, planning strategies, estimating cost of the project, looking for procurement options and preparing strategies for completing different phases. The Crystal building specifications were building must be able to generate energy by using sola
r panel, use of natural light, reduction in carbon emission, control heating of building, providing hot water by using solar thermal heating etc. The schedule estimated for project completion is decided at 3 years and budget allocated for project is approx 30 million Euros. TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS The technical requirement for the green building project were to equip building with features like storing of rain water, maximum use of natural light, generation of energy and reducing the carbon emission of building. In order to equip building with such features there will be requirement of equipments like solar panels to generate electricity, underground tanks to store water, ground source heat pumps use of natural heat source to maintain the building temperature, triple glazed window to allowing maximum natural light in the building. The equipments which are required for constructing the building are easily available in the market and feasible to use in building. As per the technical feasible requirement analysis the green building project is feasible. SCHEDULE FEASIBILITY The schedule of building project is prepared on the basis of resources available for construction. The resources which are required to perform feasibility analysis are financial resources, human resources and raw material(Jinhua, 2015). Government regulation for constructing building is also considered for preparing schedule. The Crystal project was completed in 2 years which was earlier than expected which means project it passes the schedule feasibility analysis. BUDGET FEASIBILITY There are several factors which are considered while preparing the budget for the project(Vanderbauwhede and Takemi, 2015). These factors decide whether the project is feasible or should be dropped. In the crystal building project Siemens has the approved the budget of 30 million Euros. As per the budget feasibility analysis the project was feasible for the organization and they was able to deliver the project within the estimated budget. SYSTEM REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS System requirements analysis will be performed on the basis on OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS The Crystal building operational requirements were it should be able to generate 20% of electricity it consumes. Rain water must be stored in underground tanks which can be used. Adequate amount of natural light must enter the building. It should be able to reduce carbon emission more than any other building. SYSTEM MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT Once the green building construction is finished, its maintenance is necessary hence the planning of maintenance needs to be done in advance for long lasting structure functioning as per the requirement of the Siemens. TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE MEASURES There are some attributes which measures the technical performance of project. The crystal building project must be able to meet the attributes requirement to prove its success. These attributes are usability, maintainability, scalability, availability, extensibility, security and portability. FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS AND ALLOCATION: Functional analysis divides the system in smaller parts called functional elements; they describe how individual elements need to perform their task and work. Like for generating electricity solar panel will be used, for storing rain water underground tanks will be used and to reduce carbon emission natural fuels will be used instead of fossil fuel. Functions and system requirements of building is required for allocating resources. CONCLUSION In this paper critical analysis of system design process was performed. For analysis I have selected the environment friendly building project. The concept of environment friendly building comes after research come to known about how our building are playing with the environment. We are misusing resources and energy, spreading pollution through carbon emission and damaging our environment. Green buildings are the solutions to many problems which we are facing now days. It can be used to generate electric, save rain water and treat it for household use, reduce energy use in the building, reduce carbon emissions, brining nature indoor to improve people health etc. The crystal is a green building on which critical analysis was performed. The analysis was very helpful in making us understand the importance of green building. In the analysis needs of the project were identified, feasibility analysis of technical requirements, schedule requirements and cost requirements is performed to check the feasibility of project. System requirement analysis was also performed to understand the operational and functional requirements of project along with need of measuring the technical performance of project. Overall critical analysis of system design process was helpful in understanding the different phases of system design. REFERENCES Albino, V. and Berardi, U. (2012).
