Unit Aim

The aim of this unit is to enable students to understand the role and contribution of mentorship in health and social care which is to support the personal development and lifelong learning of staff. Mentorship is achieved by effective leadership and mentoring and coaching. Health and social care workers need to be able to differentiate between team and individual leadership, mentoring and coaching, and know how to apply these in their own practice.

Review theories and principles of team and individual leadership, mentoring and coaching in health and social care.

Explore how mentorship, through mentoring and coaching practices, can benefit individuals and organisations in care environments.

Apply mentoring and coaching techniques to support mentorship of individuals in care environments.

Review own leadership and mentoring practice in a care environment.
