PRINCIPLES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
CONSULTANT’S REPORT
MEMORANDUM OF ENGAGEMENT
To: Project Management Consultancy July 2021
From: Chief Executive’s Office
Subject: Project Management Improvement Strategy
In consideration of your reputation for assisting organisations to improve their project management
performance, we would like to engage your consultancy to help us improve the way we manage projects too.
As you may know, in recent years the Mawson Zoo has undertaken a larger number of projects of
increasingly higher value than ever before. Yet despite our significant internal technical expertise and
executive management capability, the number of projects delivering the approved scope has declined.
For this engagement, we would like your consultancy to present a professional ‘consultant’s proposal’
with recommendations for the implementation of modern project management principles and processes
to improve project scope delivery
throughout the Zoo organisation.
Your recommendations will need to be implemented in several stages, which you will need to outline within
your proposal as a 1-page
Staged Implementation Schedule.
The required structure for your report is detailed in Attachment 1.
The audience for your report is the Mawson Zoo Executive Board.
To support your discussion and recommendations, I advise that Mawson Zoo is currently operating within a
traditional, functional organisation structure, and an internal audit using the benchmark
Kerzner model
recently identified the Zoo’s overall Project Management Maturity to be at Level 2.
We understand there may be many opportunities for our project management capability to be improved;
however, at this time we are only concerned about the issue identified above. We believe your contribution
will be valuable and will lead to increased viability for the Zoo in the long-term.
We look forward to your report and recommendations.
Yours sincerely,
Theodor Seuss Geisel
Chief Executive
Mawson Zoo
