Assessment 3 Report- [Observation of a child’s developing written, visual, spoken, multimedia, and
performance text awareness.]
Due Week 15: Sunday 20

Purpose:
The data collection for this task is undertaken during professional experience placement with three
children under 3 years of age. Pre Service Teachers (PST’s) are to collect and document a series of
observations with the focus on early language and literacy development. Based on the
documentation and summary of each of the three (3) focus children’s language and literacy
development, plan, implement, assess, and evaluate indoor and outdoor experiences (during the
first three weeks of the placement) that build on the child’s language and literacy development.
Write a Report that summarises the child’s language and literacy development and how the planned
experiences contribute to further development. Fully evaluated learning experience plans and
observational documentation are required and should be included as appendices.

Marking Criteria

Written Report
Introduction
Brief introduction of the early learning centre and the focus children.

Focus Children’s language development
Summary for each of the three focus children’s language and literacy development based on the
documentation from observations.

Teaching Strategies
Overview of teaching strategies that enhance children’s language and literacy development.
Teaching strategies consider age, stage expectations, frameworks, standards for language
development, observations, context (indoor/outdoor), and are built on the child’s interests. A
collaborative approach to language learning involving all stakeholders is evident.

Evaluation tools that gauge language development
Provided evaluation tools for language development that are suitable for the three focus children.
Justification is strengthened by references to learning outcomes, stages, and readings. Evaluation
of child’s learning is provided with a follow-up step provided.

Fully evaluated learning experience plans and observational documentation for the three focus
children are included as appendices.

Academic Literature
Academic literature is consulted and included in the written report to support the discussion. At
least 8 references (including at least five references from the course materials) are included. APA
style 7
th edition is used for all in-text citations and reference list.

Conventions
A scholarly presentation of ideas is evident. Correct academic conventions are used in the
presentation of the Report. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation are accurate indicating the work
has been proofread.
