Assessment Task 4 Instructions
Complete the following activities:
1. Prepare for a professional development presentation
This assessment task requires you to complete all of the activities A to E below to prepare a
professional development presentation, which you will present to your assessor and at least two other
students.
As a minimum your professional development presentation should address all of the following:
Your personal and professional goals for the next 12 months, as well as for the next five years.
Your perceived strengths in your skills and knowledge, as well as areas that you would like to
improve, or gaps you would like to fill. You will identify these through your self-assessment,
interviews, or in response to new industry trends.
Three professional development priorities based on your areas for improvement and/or gaps you
have identified. For each of the priorities identified you will also need to provide the reasons why
you have identified this as a priority and by when you would like to address the priority.
Three professional development activities that you feel would meet your desired areas for
improvement or gaps and that you intend to participate in over the next 12 months. The professional
development activities could also include the networks that you have identified.

At least one of the professional development activities you identified should be in response to the
feedback provided during the professional development research you conducted.

At least one professional development activity should be able to be completed prior to the
completion of this unit of study about managing personal work priorities and professional
development. You will need to participate and report on this professional development activity for
Assessment Task 5. You should choose an activity that you can easily participate in such as a
webinar, watching a video, or attending a free networking event.
Your presentation should be approximately 15 minutes. You should develop power points that are clear
and concise and include graphics such as images, tables, graphs or charts to illustrate your report.
Each of the activities below describes the key points that need to be included in your power point
presentation.
A: Self-Assessment
The first part of the assessment requires you to complete a self-assessment using a self-assessment
table provided to you by your assessor. During your course you will have gained some skills in
management. Imagine that you are now seeking to gain advanced management skills and so you need
to conduct a self-assessment against two units of competency from the Advanced Diploma of
Leadership and Management. Your assessor will provide you with the web site reference for you to
review the two units of competency.

Read through the Units of Competency and complete the attached self-assessment table for each unit
of competency.

For your presentation, you should provide examples (at least four for each unit of competency) of how
you have ranked your skills and knowledge in the assessment ranking. You should also discuss how

useful you found the self-assessment process, as well as how it has informed your professional
development plan.
Your self-assessment should be emailed to your assessor at the conclusion of this assessment task.
B: Professional competence research
For Activity B, interview at least two of the following people; a fellow student, a family member, friend or
colleague who currently works as a manager or your assessor. Use the Interview Response Template to
document their responses and scan and save completed responses to provide as part of your
assessment evidence.

Ask them to identify the skills and knowledge that they consider most important for a manager, as well
as any skills that they consider may be important to develop based on industry trends.

In addition, ask them to discuss one example of a professional development activity they have
undertaken recently and how this was beneficial to them. Ask them whether they would recommend this
activity to others.
As part of the presentation, you should discuss the response to the interviews, including who you
interview and their job role, as well as the feedback provided regarding important skills and knowledge
and professional development activity and how this informed your professional development plan.

In the professional development plan for Part E of this assessment, at least one of the professional
development activities that you indicate you will undertake should be based on this feedback.

C. Career review
Prepare your response to the following questions and present your response as part of your
presentation. Your response to each question needs only be a few dot points to include in your
presentation which you can then explain verbally.
Discuss your career aspirations.
Discuss the possible career options that you have following completion of your course?
D: Networking review

Prepare your response to the following questions and present your response as part of your
presentation.

Identify and describe at least two formal networks that a Manager could participate in. Your
response to each question needs only be a few dot points to include in your presentation which you
can then explain verbally.
For the two formal networks identify:
