Assessment Brief Module Code: PGBM02 Module Title: Managing and Leading People Canvas & JIRA Deadline Date: Tuesday 6th February 2018 at 16:00 Instructions on Assessment: ‘High-Performance Organisations†(HPOs) are often described as those with better performance than of its peer group over a long period of time and have attributes of; strong financial results, satisfied customers and employees, high levels of individual initiative, productivity and innovation, aligned performance measurement and reward systems, and strong leadership (Waal & Heijtel, 2017; Epstein 2004). The role of Line Managers and Leaders in such organisations is crucial to their success. Produce a 3,000-word report in which you address the two components: Part A: Critically analyse the Leadership characteristics necessary to create a ‘HighPerformance Organisation†(HPO). (In your analysis you should outline what you consider are the major characteristics, justify why you believe they are important and align these to appropriate leadership styles). Part B: Critically analyse how a Manager can enhance organisational performance in one of the following areas: • People Resourcing • Learning and Development • Motivation and Engagement • Performance Appraisal/ Measurement • Culture (In your analysis you must define the key practice you have chosen, identify and critically discuss an appropriate model relating to the practice and analyse the role of a manager in enhancing this for a HPO). The report is worth 100% of the module mark. Word Limits for the assignment:3,000 words (+-10%). The word count is to be declared on the front page of your assignment. Summarising and compressing the information in your assignment into the word limit is one of the skills that students are expected to acquire, and demonstrate as part of the assignment process.
