Othman, Z. and Othman, N., 2015. A literatural review on work discrimination among women employees. Asian Social Science. Zaiton highlights in this article through her discussion that women should understand and acknowledge the discrimination that is present in their workplace. They must possess adequate knowledge regarding equal rights, which will help them to gain more strength in order to claim what they deserve. The author suggests that the women who are working in the retail sector must be educated before they join the workplace so that they can prepare themselves against the discrimination. The Australian government should also take initiatives in the school level education of the girls where the textbooks must be designed in a way where all kind of stereotyping or sexism is removed, which will lead to self dependent and self efficient women who know how to fight the racism in the Australian retail industry sector. The further studies must also include relevant courses dealing with discriminatory employment practice and gender discrimination in every industry including retail industry of Australia. Therefore, if the future female workers are educated and prepared enough they can fight against such discriminations as unequal pay or promotion. The retail industry of Australia should also take significant participation in the process. The companies should invest more on the training, policies or enforcement in order, to effectively, reduce the gender discrimination in the organizational culture. The discrimination has negative impacts on the women employees, which eventually affects the company productivity. The retail companies also should encourage the women workers to complaint against the discriminations to the company authority, so that the company identifies the problem sources and implement the active solutions. The retail industry must convince the victims that if they are complaining the authority will listen to them and they will not suffer anymore. The women employees if suffer severely from the discrimination can always approach to the court, however the company must be careful and should deal with the employees with care as the external and legal claim will cost them huge money. The Australian law is very strict and always protective about innocent women, so the companies always act carefully while handling cases related to the women employee discrimination. At the same time, this article also recommends that they must decrease the internal discrimination so that the talented women employees continue working in the company and contribute to the productivity significantly. However, the company should provide training to not only the service workers, but also for the decision makers and leaders of the company. The training of the management will help them to identify the discriminatory practices and take necessary actions. The authors in this article did not explore the legal aspects more or government’s role in the lowering the practice. The Australian Government Department of Human Services should apply more anti-discriminatory strategies and implement definite set of rules, which are capable of reducing gender discrimination in retail and all other business practices. In addition, the discrimination against the woman employees was in not only the higher positions the employees of the lower positions also faced similar or more discrimination.   References: Akbar, S. and Ahsan, K., 2014.
