Data Mining in Healthcare
Data mining in healthcare is a very significant tool especially in the examination of various data sets in the medical field. Data mining helps in the collection of raw data and its integration to the information system of the hospital. Both statistics and data mining also assist in the identification of different structures and patterns of data. There are various data mining techniques and applications utilized in the healthcare as a way of improving the patient experiences and their satisfaction too. These techniques are more prominent in various fields in healthcare such as the management of customer interrelations, detecting abuse and fraud within the field, and also in the enhancement of the efficiency of various methods of treatment. These techniques which are utilized include the measurement of the level of effectiveness of a treatment and also the detection of abuse and fraud (Viswanathan, Whangbo & Yang, 2011). The research conducted discusses data mining in healthcare and bases it on these techniques utilized.
There are also some benefits that data mining brings in the field of medicine. Such benefits include the enhancement of the safety and outcomes of patients, easy identification of fraud related elements in health insurance, and also easy matching of different medicine experts to the needs of patients. However, data mining also has some shortcomings in the healthcare field. It does not guarantee patients privacy as it is easy to share their personal data with the wrong people. Its lack of privacy is becoming a major concern which needs to be addressed (Viswanathan, Whangbo & Yang, 2011).
