Overview
Question:
Ive spent a few days trying to understand task 3.
I am really confused as to what is expected of us
i have looked through the skills in mid module reflection and have also looked at the personal
development template.
Please can you further break it down.
ANSWER
Task 3 is an opportunity for you to reflect on the learning gained from this module. You are asked to:
Write a critical reflective personal and professional account, answering the following question:
What skills and behaviours do I need to develop in order to creatively implement a programme of
innovative change in a range of contemporary organisations?
My supporting points are suggestions as to how you might approach this task. The marking guide is
there to support you in this task. the materials on reflection are there to support you in this task.
There is an upper limit to the amount of information that I can give to you.
Look at the list of key leadership skills. List some or all of these skills in the left hand column one.
These are personal and professional skills and behaviours. Each skill or behaviour will be a row. Audit
your own strengths and weaknesses against this list in and make comments in column two – Personal
Skills and Behaviours and column three – Professional Skills and behaviours..
Then take 2 skills and 2 behaviours related to creativity and innovation from the list that you have
identified above as needing development and create a plan as to how you are going to develop
these.

Referencing
Question:
Hello Andrew, please should we provide an in-citation and a list of reference in the task 3?
Answer:
Andrew – Yes – you will be defining reflection and leadership and using a Leadership model. So these
need citing and referencing.
LEADERSHIP
QUESTION – What model do you suggest we use for leadership?
ANSWER – you should use the model of leadership that makes most sense in relation to the
case study information as you understand it.
QUESTION – So we basically don’t need to highlight the current leadership strategy. We just
go straight to our own leadership style.
ANSWER – you have 500 words approx to talk about Leadership, your understanding of
leadership, your application of a leadership model with evidence, you as a leader, and other
points that you gain from the content and any wider CMI resources.
Remember that the Task 3 question is:
What skills and behaviours do I need to develop in order to creatively implement a
programme of innovative change in a range of contemporary organisations?
These are leadership skills and behaviours, so Task 3 follows on from Task 1 in relation to
leadership, change and change management. Task 2 focuses creativity and innovation and
so leads also in to Task 3
QUESTION – do we have to use the models in aula or can we use any from the CMI website
For instance, the ABCD model is on the CMI website but not listed in Aula
Is it ok for us to use that model?

ANSWER – the brief is to focus on CMI and module-related resources.
QUESTION – Can we use more than one model?
ANSWER – no – it gets confused; word count does not warrant this; more than one model
suggests that you chose the wrong model.
QUESTION – When looking at leadership characteristics, e.g. for transformational leadership
style, could we combine components of more than one model. There are different groups of
scientists who have tried to describe the effective transformational leader in different ways,
and I assume they are all relevant.
ANSWER – yes, they are all relevant, but in another module and another assignment. This
assignment is limited in terms of word count, and whilst it is really useful to know that
academic models are simplistic and limited, our report is not the place to have the
discussion unless you can do it with limited word count supported by citations.
QUESTION – When choosing which leadership model to apply, shall we stick to the
leadership styles already mentioned in the interview (e.g. transactional vs. transformational)
or are we free to choose a completely different model?
ANSWER – up to you. But the models need to be module / CMI related.
LEADERSHIP / MBTI
QUESTION – In the Leadership section we identify the targeted leadership style and we also
compare it to own personality (according to the MBTI). Does that mean that in Task 3 when
we need to identify the skills that need improvement, we take again the targeted leadership
style for that organisation and try to make ourselves effective to take over that role? Or
does Task 3 merely ask us to develop some leadership skills, not necessarily linked to the
organisational needs?
ANSWER – Task 3 is where you step out of the “”role play”” and reflect on what you have
learnt about leadership and you during the course of the module. There is a question:

What skills and behaviours do I need to develop in order to creatively implement a
programme of innovative change in a range of contemporary organisations?
That’s skills and behaviours which you think need to be developed in relation to the skills
and behaviours listed as being important to employers and your future career. In task 3 you
have moved away from the case study company and now consider what more you would
need to do to be able to do the same thing in a real-life company.
QUESTION – for my MBTI assessment, is it ok to cite from the 16 personalities website?
cause thats where i found most my information about the personalities strengths and
weaknesses.
ANSWER – you have to cite from the 16 personalities web site – that is indeed where the
information is found.
QUESTION – In Leadership part, it asks me to assess your own MBTI leadership style. how is
this related to the case study?
ANSWER – at this point we have moved away from the specifics of the case study and are
thinking about how you would act as the leader in that company to manage the changes
that you have already analysed
LEADERSHIP STYLES
QUESTION – can we use models that arent posted on Aula but are mentioned on the CMI
website?
ANSWER – it depends upon what you mean by mentioned! What did you have in mind?
REPLY – the X and Y theory or the PAEI, for the leadership section
ANSWER – the PAEI covers some of the same ground as the MBTI analysis which you will
undertake, so does not add anything in our context, I think. McGregors X & Y is rather too
binary in our context. There are enough Leadership options I think in the materials available.
Audit Table
Question
“1. For the table where we need to audit our skills. how do we ‘audit’?

ANSWER
an audit is where you check “”what should be”” against “”what is””. Take a Leadership Skill “”what
should be”” and check what your skills or experiences “”are”” in relation to that skill (or behaviour)
Skills
Question
After picking skills, do we comment about it in either the personal colum OR the professional colum
under both columns?
ANSWER – Or. You identify whether this is a professional or personal skill or behaviour. You do not
need to describe each as being personal or professional in the row, as that is already defined by how
you are allocating them.
Question:
When it says ‘Identify relevant Key Leadership Skills and audit your current personal and
professional Skills and Behaviours in order to identify the gap’ are we using the template for ‘Part 1 “
Personal Analysis’ and then the personal development plan follows this with the template below
this?
ANSWER
At this stage of this Master’s module, the resources available should be seen to be support options,
if I can describe them as such, that you choose from and utilise as you see fit. Reflection is a personal
process and you have to adapt and adopt resources as you wish to suit your own learning style.
With regard to the specific question, the Key Leadership Skills are in the Mid-module reflection, and
you can use this list to identify gaps in your behaviours and skills that you then plan, using SMART
targets, of bridging.

Planning
Question
plans “for personal development plan and professional development plan do we use the same
template and do it together?
or
do we have to make a professional development plan from scratch based on the notes/steps on
aula?
ANSWER – this is up to you, but if it were me, I would amend the personal development plan
accordingly.
Question:
so in the 5th point. two tables are expected from us. one personal development plan that highlights
2 skills and 2 behaviours and one professional development plan that highlights 2 other skills and 2
other behaviours. Right?
ANSWER – No. the suggestion is:
Personal and Professional Development Plan – Identify 2 skills and 2 behaviours you want to develop.
The focus will be on resolving gaps related to “”creatively implementing a programme of innovative
change”” using SMART objectives. This plan will be in the form of a table and will not add to the
word count.
You have been given a Personal Development Plan template, so you should amend it to be a
Personal and Professional Development Plan.
Academic Writing
Question:
I have started to write Task 3. But I wanted to double check whether it’s okay to write in first
person? This is what I’ve done in previous reflection tasks and what I’ve started to do for this one.Â
ANSWER – research examples of reflective writing e.g.
